I can’t believe I never posted this flyer on Tumblr! What the heck’s wrong with me?
Well anyhow, here you go. I have a buddy who works at Red 7 who knows Dillinger Four is one of my all-time favorite bands (and the Riverboat Gamblers and Radioactivity [Mark and Jeff from the Marked Men’s new band] ain’t so shabby either) and asked me to draw a flyer for this show. I said heck yeah, and it came out exceptionally weird. Though…
You know, once upon a time, when I was younger and still finding my sea legs art-wise, I would have these images in my head of a finished piece of art, and it was always such a maddening struggle to go from that mental image to a finished product that at all resembled my original vision. After years and years and years of drawing and a million hours devoted to realizing visions on paper, I’m finally at a place where I’m pretty confident in my ability to draw something from my head that actually comes out looking right.
This sounds like a bit of self-aggrandizement, and I truly don’t mean it that way. I know a cartoon drawing of a doctor proudly holding up a monster baby is a tough-sell as anything even remotely resembling “high art”. Still, the flyer turned out more or less exactly as I’d intended it to when I first set pencil to paper, a feat I find happening more and more often as I get older and more experienced as an artist, and I feel like that’s something worth taking a moment to be at least a little bit proud of.
Would buy a print of this.
